Interest Groups
Crafts:
We meet on the first and third Fridays of the month in Bridgewater Tesco's community room at 2pm. Unfortunately there is a limit as to how many people can work safely and comfortably in the room. So I am afraid that the numbers are still capped at their current level. I have a waiting list for any other U3A member who wishes to join should a space become available.

Family History:
The Genealogy group has booked the Tesco Community Room (Boulevard) for 10:30am on the First and Third Wednesday of each month and new members would be welcome. We are also being joined by some young pupils from both High Schools for a particular event they are holding later.

Flower Arranging:
We flower arrangers usually describe ourselves as meeting on the last Friday of the month but March was a 5 Friday month so we met on the 4th Friday, the 22nd. This avoided a clash with Good Friday and everyone had the opportunity to produce Easter themed arrangements well in advance of the event. Most arrangements included either little bunnies, eggs or nests and those taking part enjoyed trying something a bit different. Our next planned meeting is 26th April at 2:30pm in Tesco Community Room (Boulevard). Contact Veronica. |

History:
On 14/3/2024, eight members of the History group travelled to Drogheda. Our mission, to discover some of the history of this mediaeval fortified town. We commenced our tour at Millmount Museum where we viewed both domestic and commercial artefacts which had been donated to the museum over the years. Next then to the Martello tower, where we learned about Cromwell's siege and inspected the lie of the land from a very windswept viewing platform. While in the tower, we were given a demonstration of the type of weapons used during Cromwell's time. Following lunch, a walk around Drogheda led us to the St.Lawrence Gate and St. Peter's Cathedral, the resting place of the head of the martyr Oliver Plunkett. All agreed that the trip was most enlightening. |

It is important to note that the next outing of the History group will be on the first Friday in April, ie, April 5th. This change is due to the fact I shall be unavailable on 12th inst.
The trip is to Loughgall, to visit Dan Winter's cottage, where we will avail of a tour of the premises and a talk about the history of the Orange Order. The tour costs £40 which will be divided between each participant. Travel will be by car share, usual rates apply. It is important that those wishing to attend contact me beforehand to confirm and we will rendezvous at Tesco's small car park at 10.a.m. on Friday 5th.April. I should be obliged if those intending to come confirm with me in advance.

Thanks to all who sent me your ‘Waterways’ shots. You can see the results for yourself on our Flickr page, the link is below as usual.
Project for April for emailing to me Before April 20th – ‘Changed Perspective’.
Classic mistake is that everyone takes photos from their eye level. Either get up higher or lower, try and find a more interesting angle. Take your 6 different images on any subject or subjects with a unique perspective (or point of view). Be freely creative.

Walking:
The Walking Group meets every Monday morning at 9:15 at Tesco small car park where we arrange car share to take us to the starting point of the walk. No car? No problem. We aim to start walking at 10am with the walk taking approximately 3 hours before returning to Banbridge around 2pm. The walks are easy to moderate. Walking boots and poles will be necessary for some of the walks. Everyone needs to consult the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Hi viz jackets will be provided when a walk includes short stretches of public road. We bring our own light refreshments with us. We have a large membership with about 13 walking each week. The walking group experienced 4 lovely invigorating walks in typical March weather. We walked in Castlewellan Forest Park, Bessbrook, Warrenpoint and in Murlough. Everyone enjoys the fresh air, exercise and chat. It's such a friendly group.

Two Interest Groups need a Facilitator
Singing:
We are still at a standstill as far as the choir is concerned. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to get someone to act as musical director. If there’s anyone who knows of a potential leader, coerce and bribe them to join us!
