Our thanks and appreciation to Veronica for 4 years (due to Covid) of inspired leadership. Thanks also to Peter (a founding member of our u3a) for his sterling service on committee since 2015. We really appreciate Sharon for stepping up as Chair and know we can count on everyone’s support through the years ahead. Our committee of 9 will be greatly enriched with 3 more members to come on board and serve our u3a here in Banbridge!

Interest Groups
Crafts:
We meet on the first and third Fridays of the month in Bridgewater Tesco's community room at 2pm. Unfortunately there is a limit as to how many people can work safely and comfortably in the room. So I am afraid that the numbers are still capped at their current level. I have a waiting list for any other U3A member who wishes to join should a space become available.

Family History:
The Genealogy group has booked the Tesco Community Room (Boulevard) for 10:30am on the First and Third Wednesday of each month and new members would be welcome. We are also being joined by some young pupils from both High Schools for a particular event they are holding later.

Flower Arranging:
Six of our flower arranging group made it to today's meeting with apologies from 2 further members. The design for today in oblong containers could be described as roughly boat shaped. It is intended for a low surface so that the depth of the arrangement can be appreciated. Members were pleased with their results. Our next planned meeting is 31st May at 2:30pm in Tesco Community Room (Boulevard). Contact Veronica. |

History:
On 5/4/2024, thirteen members of the History group travelled to the Loughgall area to the site of the Battle of the Diamond and Dan Winter's ancestral home. Dan Winter was one of the founding fathers of the original Orange Society, later to become the Orange Institution. Colin Winter, a direct descendant, gave a most interesting and entertaining history, following which, we toured the premises, filled with historical artefacts and whimsical collections. At the end of our visit, we were treated to delicious home made scones, tea and coffee. All in attendance agreed the outing was very enjoyable. |

The next History group outing will take place on Friday 17th May to Greencastle Royal castle. Travel will be by car share, departing from Tesco's small car park at 10 a.m. Those wishing to attend, please let me know in advance. Tel. 07775087652. I regret to say, but it is important to note, that Greencastle Royal castle is not readily accessible to wheelchairs.

Project for May for emailing to me before May 19th – ‘Natural Beauty’. This can involve the natural world in all its forms, including perhaps the human one as in a portrait, and of course let’s not forget the butterflies, flowers and insects etc!

Walking:
The Walking Group meets every Monday morning at 9:15 at Tesco small car park where we arrange car share to take us to the starting point of the walk. No car? No problem. We aim to start walking at 10am with the walk taking approximately 3 hours before returning to Banbridge around 2pm. The walks are easy to moderate. Walking boots and poles will be necessary for some of the walks. Everyone needs to consult the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Hi viz jackets will be provided when a walk includes short stretches of public road. We bring our own light refreshments with us. We have a large membership with about 13 walking each week. The walking group experienced 4 lovely invigorating walks in typical March weather. We walked in Castlewellan Forest Park, Bessbrook, Warrenpoint and in Murlough. Everyone enjoys the fresh air, exercise and chat. It's such a friendly group.

Two Interest Groups need a Facilitator
Singing:
We are still at a standstill as far as the choir is concerned. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to get someone to act as musical director. If there’s anyone who knows of a potential leader, coerce and bribe them to join us!
